| HELPFUL HINTS FOR YOUR NEW PUPPY __ Your Bully Puppy is eating ( Diamond Extreme Athlete)Adult food has more protein and fat and is vital you give your pup plenty of exercise. We feed our 8 week old pups 6-8 oz of dry kibble, 2 X daily approx 12 hour apart. If you notice the poop get soft and/or runny, skip a feeding. My adult English Bulldogs only eat 3 Cups (24oz) 1 X daily. My adult Pitbulls eat 4 cups (32oz) 1X daily. All of our dogs are strong, athletic and healthy. Not fat lazy slobs as many bulldogs are. Note: Over feeding can be extremely hazardous. A Bulldog will eat until he is gorged if you allow him. This causes health problems as well as soft or liquid stool. I have found that as puppies, alternating feeding 2 x one day and 1 x the next helps to keep Bullie with a nice hard healthy stool. You be the judge. Also please DO NOT let your Bullie run and play until 1-1/2 hours after eating. This is to prevent regurgitation and possible aspiration. (Aspiration is when food is sucked into the lungs and can easily turn to pneumonia.) Bullies can be prone to this. IVERMECTIN (I-VER-MEC-TIN) (Monthly) In my opinion, it is very important in preventing skin problems that often plague Bulldogs, as well as offers medium flea protection. Ivermectin also works as a heart worm preventative as contained in Heart Guard. My dogs receive 1 x every 30 days approx 2/10 cc per 10 lbs of body weight. They do not have skin problems and I rarely need to clean any of my Bullies wrinkles. They all have great skin, you can see for yourself. If you choose not to do this, then don’t cry to me when your Bulldog has skin issues. __ Ear Maintenance: Clean ears with Listerine Mouthwash 2 x monthly. Don’t be afraid to dump a large amount it into canal, (You cannot put too much so don’t be afraid) then use cotton ball, (NOT CUTIP) to wipe out and allow dog to shake. This will keep ear infections from forming. It will not harm your dog no matter what you are told. I’ve used it for decades. __ Bathing: Do not bathe your Bullie so much that you dry out his skin. 2 x monthly is adequate with Selsun Blue Medicated Shampoo. Prevents Bully from smelling like a Dog, and that’s a good THING….. Take special attention when RINSING him to ensure the removal of all soap. Bullies can get a very itchy rash when soap is left on them. _ CHEW TOYS: Number 1 play toy, empty (WATER BOTTLE). Strip off the paper, top and top band. Also I have found that Bulldog Puppies enjoy the dried pig hooves that you get at the local pet store. However be aware that adult Bulldogs can chew them up and swallow them causing issues. Therefore you need to monitor to ensure that it is being used as a CHEW TOY, not a SWALLOWING TOY……. __ Flea & Tick Prevention: You can also use FRONT LINE that you purchase from your local pet store. __ NO: Rawhide or Pig Ears. They cannot digest them. The Bulldog will swallow them and it can lie in their stomach for years. Best treats that I have found is Cow hooves found at your local feed or pet store. All puppies will come with a goodie bag including these. __ Nu-Vet Plus Multi Vitamin (Daily) Most issues in Bulldogs, start from a compromised immune system. Nu-Vet Products are a strong multiple vitamins and joint support that helps to limit certain health issues. It is really a good idea to use this product. I highly recommend these. |
